Eyes In The Storm
Struggling with God
by Tracy Story

You're out for a walk and all of a sudden it starts pouring down rain, and you see a big streak of lightning followed by the loudest bang of thunder you've ever heard. This was not supposed to happen. It was not in the forecast. Well, you're caught in a storm. What do you do? Do you just stand there waiting for it to stop? Or do you seek to find safety? Sometimes, it's raining so hard you can't see very far in front of you. Do you start searching for the closest shelter?

When you're caught in the storms of life and all around you has grown dark, what do you do? Do you struggle with God to show you the path in front of you? You feel alone, as if your pain is unique only to you at this moment. Has God abandoned you? Do you even matter to the God of the universe? Does He even care about you and your dreams? You ask God, "Are you even there?" I've learned during the storms of life that it's ok to struggle with God. He embraces us as we wrestle with Him. He gently asks us during the storm, "Where are you looking my child?" You see the rain, lightening, and you hear the thunder. You cry out and say, "All I can see is this terrible storm and it surrounds me." He lovingly says, "Raise your head and look up at me. I will sustain you. I will bring you out into a broad place and rescue you." Do you believe Him? Or do you try on your own to rescue yourself or stand there lifeless being drowned by all your sorrows? He is patient and He will let you. When you are tired and exhausted from trying so hard or gasping for breath from the drowning rain, lift your eyes to Him. He will cup your chin in His hands and help you raise your head.

Faith is trusting what the eye can't see.
Eyes see the prowling lion. Faith sees Daniel's angel.
Eyes see storms. Faith sees Noah's rainbows.
Eyes see giants. Faith sees Canaan.
Your eyes see your faults. Your faith sees your Savior.
Your eyes see your guilt. Your faith sees his blood.
Your eyes look in the mirror and see a sinner, a failure, a promise-breaker. But by faith you look in the mirror and see a robed prodigal bearing the ring of grace on your finger and the kiss of your Father on your face.
