"Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving." -- Colossians 4:2
"Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear." -- Isaiah 65:24
In a world of uncertainly -- where do I go next? Where should I spend my time? What job should I take? What should my major be? Should I continue schooling? Am I where He wants me? Am I spending my time where it should be spent? Where and what do you want for my life, O Lord? -- with all these uncertainties, there are a few things that you can count on being certain. To name a few: God’s sovereignty, God’s grace through Christ Jesus, and our constant need of Him. One other certainty is God’s desire for us to pray.
Prayer is to request, to bring our desires to Him, to confess, to sit in the presence of God with thanksgiving and a teachable heart. He pushes us to pray. He says to "continue steadfastly in prayer." With so much uncertainty in life, it is certain that we are to pray, to bring our requests, our needs, our life to God.
At the end of the day it is just me. There is nothing spectacular about me. When it is all said and done, I would lead myself to my total destruction if I had not God. My life would be nothing without Him. The realness of these statements is more than I can understand. The consideration of my life without Christ is inconceivable -- life would seize to have worth for me. I have found my need. It is Him. All the other uncertainties remain, but with my greatest need met, I know how to go from here. It is not a five-step plan or a marathon-running training schedule. It is not a run, but more a "race" that starts on your knees.
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." -- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
"Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality." -- Romans 12:11-13
