Who is God? How would someone describe Him? Can God even be described? The late S.M Lockridge once gave a sermon describing who God is and then concluded that God is simply indescribable. In Psalm 71:19, we read "... O God, who is like you?" And yet we also know from further study of the Psalms that one way we draw closer to God is to reflect and acknowledge who He reveals Himself to be and what He has done and is doing. In the coming months, Lily7 hopes to give you a small glimpse into who God is by focusing on a few of His attributes. By no way an exhaustive description of who God is, understanding these attributes has a profound effect on our life and how we view the world. They also serve to remind us of why we worship God, to reflect on who God is and how, like Reverand Lockridge concluded, He truly is indescribable.

God's Beautiful Provision
by Krissy McArthur

It has been almost a year since that morning my manager called me into her office to say, "We no longer have the budget to keep you." I was working as a floral designer, and even though I wasn't crazy about the job's long days of standing and the toll it took on me physically, let's face it, it was a job.

I had been down-sized two other times over the years and was able to immediately jump into the next thing. This time was different. I didn't have the "next thing" lined up. It was my dream to start a design company, but that wasn't in my plan for another few years. The thought of being able to create beauty every day and be my own boss both excited and terrified me. Believing that it was not time for such a leap of faith, I spiffed up my resume, bought some power interviewing suits, and hit the pavement, or rather the internet, looking for a job.

With so many years of experience as an Executive Assistant, I was sure finding a job would be cinch. The calls started coming, but they weren't the calls I expected. They were not from prospective employers, but rather from friends ... "Would you help me re-do my office?"... "Would you be willing to help me fix up my basement?" ... "We think we are going to put our house on the market, can you consult with us about repairs and staging?"

Unknowingly, I began filling my days designing and re-designing rooms, offices and basements for my friends. I charged a small hourly fee to cover my time and did all the work myself. I painted, sewed, built and tiled my way through days and months. Still believing it was not time for me to go into business for myself, I pursued job after job. Interviews came and went. There was always some reason it just wouldn't work out. I became very frustrated by so many almosts.

All the while, friends referred friends, and soon my client list began to grow. I wasn't actively pursuing any of it; it was just happening. A business was building right before my eyes and with each new client I was blown away. The more clients I acquired, the more I focused on design and the less I focused on looking for a "real" job. One day I finally said to myself, "This is really happening!"

I had a plan. And from anyone's perspective, it would have been a good plan ... get a job, be financially secure, buy a house, and then start a business. But God had a plan too. His ways are not our ways and even when we think we have it all figured out, He loves to shake it up. I love that about God. He provided for me in such a tangible, yet very beautiful and personal way. He effortlessly made into reality the passion of my heart--to spend my days creating beauty. He is Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides.
