I Have Purposed, and I Will Do It
by Kristy Wakefield

Isaiah 46:8-11
"Remember this and stand firm,
recall it to mind, you transgressors,
remember the former things of old;
for I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me,
declaring the end from the beginning
and from ancient times things not yet done,
saying, 'My counsel shall stand,
and I will accomplish all my purpose,'
calling a bird of prey from the east,
the man of my counsel from a far country.
I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass;
I have purposed, and I will do it.

2 Corinthians 1:20
For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.

These two passages are significant in that they promise us assurance in God’s absolute sovereignty and reign over his creation and his plan. We struggle so much with being so out of control of ourselves and so far from the lives we plan for ourselves. And yet, we see here, a God who is perfectly in control. A God that has "declared the end from the beginning" and "will accomplish (his) purpose." He is in control. He is God. This "is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory." God gives sweet relief in the midst of a mess:

I’m so sad that I am such a mess and so in need.
But I need him...And he provides.
I was made to need him and was made in need of him.
I was not made to rely on myself.
I was made for this.
I was made for this.
I rejoice to need him.
This is how it was intended to be, rejoice!
I need him. He provides.
One thing is certain.
God saved us; He did it fully.
And through it, all things are being made right.
And "being made right" may feel like a mess,
But it is through this mess that I find what is longed for -- God.
And he accomplishes his purpose. Amen.
