Tigger Vs. Eeyore
Attitude is everything
by Cat Van Hook

Are you a Tigger or an Eeyore? I'm sure you're probably familiar with the lovable little Winnie the Pooh characters, even though it's been a few years since you've seen them last. As strange as it sounds, maybe we can learn a little something from our little bouncing friend Tigger.

Did you ever notice how Tigger has this insatiable energy that is contagious to those around him? How about that his attitude remains positive despite life circumstances? Maybe how he sees solutions in out-of-the-ordinary places? By now you've realized that this article will not be triggering any deep spiritual epiphanies, but I think that sometimes the simplest reminders can be just as important. It's very easy to assume the position of Eeyore. Ho-hum, poor me. Look at this big boulder that just fell on my house (ok, so that's a big deal). But how much more fun to do a "whoopty dooper bounce" and fly up high in the sky to bounce that boulder out of the way? Maybe that's a bad analogy, but I'm sticking with a theme here.

Even if my point is somewhat childish and a little silly, life is a lot more pleasant for you and those around you when a positive attitude is present. In the past few years, I've become more aware of how much of how we feel is our choice. You can choose to be grumpy because the girl next door in your dorm won't turn her music down while you're trying to study, OR you can see the blessing of being in a culture (most likely for the only time in your life) that is 99% people your age with a ton of diversity and potential (Besides, you can walk to the library to study and call an old friend on the way — exercise and talking with friends!).

I know that sometimes ultra-positive people grate on your nerves, but with the peace of Christ, shouldn't Christians be different? We don't necessarily need to be bubbly cheerleaders all the time, but looking at life through a Christ-lens should make us thankful for the challenges and circumstances that God has given us. After all, they are there to teach us things and make us more like Christ. Who can argue with being more like Christ?

For now, a simple step: Be more like Tigger (only study more — his spelling is terrible!).
